What is the true spirit of Islam? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us in crystal clear terms today.

All founders of religions heard the impersonal voice of God revealing Atma that activates the entire Creation. Just as Vedas were ‘heard’ and propagated as ‘heard’ (Sruti), Quran too was ‘heard’ by Hazrath Muhammad. The Quran has Salat and Zakat as two eyes. Salat means prayer; Zakat means charity. Those who consider charity as a high duty and elevate their consciousness through prayers and continuous meditation on God are Muslims. Islam is a word which denotes not a particular religion but a state of mind, a state of total surrender to the Will of God. Islam means dedication, surrender, peace, tranquillity. Islam denotes a community whose members achieved supreme peace through surrender to the All-Merciful, All-Powerful God and who vowed to live in peace with their fellowmen. Later, it came to be applied to communities that considered themselves separate and different from the rest. Islam taught something higher. It directed attention to The One in the many, Unity in Diversity and led people to God.

படைப்பனைத்தையும் இயக்கும் ஆத்மாவை வெளிப்படுத்திய இறைவனது அசரீரியான குரலை அனைத்து மதஸ்தாபகர்களும் கேட்டுள்ளார்கள். எவ்வாறு வேதங்கள் காதால் ‘கேட்கப்பட்டு’, பின் ஸ்ருதி, அதாவது ‘கேட்கப்பட்டவை’ எனும் பெயரில் பரப்பப்பட்டதோ, திருக்குரானும் அவ்வண்ணமே ஹஸ்ரத் முஹம்மது அவர்களால் கேட்கப்பட்டதாகும். திருக்குரான் ‘ஸலாத்’ஐயும் ‘ஜகாத்’ஐயும் இரண்டு கண்களாகக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. ‘ஸலாத்’ என்றால் பிரார்த்தனை; ‘ஜகாத்’ என்றால் தானம். தானதர்மமே தலையாய கடமை எனக்கொண்டு தன் விழிப்புணர்வை பிரார்த்தனை மூலமும், தொடர்ந்த தியானத்தின் மூலமும் யார் உயர்த்திக் கொள்கிறார்களோ, அவர்களே இஸ்லாமியர்கள். இஸ்லாம் என்பது ஒரு மதத்தை குறிக்கும் சொல் அல்ல; மாறாக இறைவனின் ஸங்கல்பத்திற்கு பரிபூரண சரணாகதி அடையும் மனநிலையைக் குறிக்கும். இஸ்லாம் என்றால் அர்ப்பணிப்பு, சரணாகதி, சாந்தி, அமைதி என்று பொருள். அனைத்து கருணையும் கொண்ட, ஸர்வ வல்லமையும் பொருந்திய இறைவனை சரணடைவதன் மூலம் ப்ரசாந்தியை அடைந்து, தங்களுடைய சக மனிதர்களுடன் சாந்தியுடன் வாழ்வோம் என்று விரதம் பூண்ட உறுப்பினர்களைக் கொண்ட ஒரு சமூகத்தை இஸ்லாம் குறிக்கிறது. பிற்காலத்தில், தங்களை வேறாகவும், மற்றவர்களிடமிருந்து மாறுபட்டவர்களாகவும் கருதும் சமூகங்களை அது குறிப்பதாக ஆகிவிட்டது. இஸ்லாம் மிக உயர்ந்த ஒன்றை போதித்தது. அது, பலவற்றில் உள்ள அந்த ஒன்றின் மீதும், வேற்றுமையில் உள்ள ஒற்றுமையின் மீதும் கவனத்தைச் செலுத்த வைத்து, மக்களை இறைவனை நோக்கி அழைத்துச் சென்றது.
