අප කියවන හෝ අසන අධ්යාත්මික පණිවිඩ වලට ප්රතිචාර දැක්විය යුතු ආකාරය භගවාන් සමිඳුන් මිහිරි “චින්න කථා” හෙවත් කුඩා කථා ඇසුරින් අපට පැහැදිළි කර දේ.
එක් දිනෙක බෝනික්කන් සාදන්නෙක් එක හා සමාන බෝනික්කන් තිදෙනෙක් භෝජ නම් රජතුමාගේ විනිශ්චය සභාව වෙත ගෙන එන ලදී. රජතුමා අග්රමාත්ය වරයා කැඳවා බෝනික්කන් තිදෙනාගෙන් කවරෙකු විශිෂ්ට වේ දැයි විමසිය. අග්රමාත්යවරයා යකඩ කම්බියක් ගෙන එක් බෝනික්කෙකුගේ කන තුලින් යැවිය. ඒ කම්බිය බෝනික්කාගේ අනෙක් කනින් පිටතට ආවේය. “රජතුමනි, මේ තමා නරකම බෝනික්කා” යනුවෙන් අග්රමාත්යවරයා පැවසීය. දෙවන බෝනික්කාගේ කන තුලට යැවූ කම්බිය මුවින් පිටතට පැමිණියේය. “රජතුමනි, මේ තමා දෙවන ත්යාග්යය හිමි විය යුතු බෝනික්කා” යනුවෙන් අග්රමාත්යවරයා පැවසීය. තෙවන බෝනික්කාගේ කනින් යැවු කම්බිය පිටතට ආවේ නැත. “රජතුමනි, මේ තමා පළමුවෙනි ත්යාග්යය හිමි විය යුතු බෝනික්කා” යනුවෙන් අග්රමාත්යවරයා පැවසීය. මෙයින් අදහස් කරන්නේ කුමක්ද? තමන් අසනා යහපත් දේ අවබෝධ කරන්නා උසස් වේ. වත්මන් සමාජයේ බොහෝ දෙන තමන් අසනා උතුම් උගැන්වීම් අසා එම ධර්ම අනෙක් කනින් පිටතට යවයි. තවත් සමහරුන් වටිනා ග්රන්ථ වලින් උගෙන ගන්න දේ හෝ ස්වාමිගෙන් අසා දැන ගන්නා දේ ගිරවුන් මෙන් ප්රකාශ කරති. විරල වූ පිරිසක් පමණක් තමන් උගෙනගත් දේ අවබෝධ කර එම කරුණු පුරුදු පුණු කරති.

How should we respond to spiritual messages that we read or listen to? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us through a sweet Chinna Katha.
Once, a sculptor brought three dolls to the court of King Bhoja. All three looked alike and beautiful. The emperor summoned the prime minister and asked him to decide which of the three dolls was the best. The prime minister brought an iron wire and put it in the ear of one of the dolls. The wire came out from the other ear. He remarked, “This is the worst doll.” When he put the wire in the ear of the second doll, it came out of its mouth. He said, “This doll can be given the second prize.” When he put the wire in the ear of the third doll, it went inside and did not come out. The prime minister declared, “This deserves the first prize.” What does this mean? It means that the person who assimilates what he hears is the best person. In this modern age, some people hear sacred teachings in one ear but immediately let them out of the other ear. Some others repeat like parrots what they read in the scriptures and what they hear from Swami. Only a few assimilate what they hear and put them into practice.

ஒருமுறை சிற்பியொருவர் போஜராஜாவின் அரசவைக்கு மூன்று பொம்மைகளைக் கொண்டு வந்தார். மூன்றும் ஒரே மாதிரியாகவும் அழகாகவும் காணப்பட்டன. அரசர் அமைச்சரை வரவழைத்து, மூன்று பொம்மைகளில் எது சிறந்தது என்பதை முடிவு செய்யும்படி கூறினார். அமைச்சர் ஒரு இரும்புகம்பியைக் கொண்டு வந்து ஒரு பொம்மையின் காதில் நுழைத்தவுடன் மற்றொரு காதிலிருந்து அந்தக் கம்பி வெளியே வந்தது. “இது மிகவும் மோசமான பொம்மை” என்று அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார். இரண்டாவது பொம்மையின் காதில் கம்பியை நுழைத்தவுடன் அதன் வாயிலிருந்து கம்பி வெளிப்பட்டது. “இந்த பொம்மைக்கு இரண்டாம் பரிசு கொடுக்கலாம்” என்றார். மூன்றாவது பொம்மையின் காதில் கம்பியை நுழைத்தபோது அது உள்ளே சென்றும் வெளியே வரவில்லை. “இது முதல் பரிசுக்குத் தகுதியானது” என்று அமைச்சர் அறிவித்தார். இதன் பொருள் என்ன? தான் கேட்டதை கிரகித்துக் கொள்பவரே சிறந்த மனிதர் என்பதாகும். இந்த நவீன யுகத்தில், சிலர் புனிதமான போதனைகளை ஒரு காதால் கேட்டுவிட்டு உடனடியாக மற்றொரு காதால் அதை வெளியே விட்டு விடுகிறார்கள். வேறு சிலர் தாங்கள் புத்தகங்களில் படித்ததையும் ஸ்வாமியிடம் கேட்டதையும் கிளிப்பிள்ளைகளைப் போல திரும்பத் திரும்பச் சொல்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் ஒரு சிலர் மட்டுமே தாங்கள் கேட்பதை கிரகித்துக்கொண்டு கடைப்பிடிக்கிறார்கள்.
