Is it that God is ignoring us given that we are but one of many devotees He has?

Very often people who experience troubles in life complain: “Why is the Lord subjecting me to trials like these?” The truth is, the Lord neither punishes nor rewards anyone. The devotee has only to do his duty and leave the results to God. If the actions are good, the fruits will also be good. If the actions are bad, the results will be equally bad. Hence without examining the nature of one’s actions, there is no meaning in blaming God for what one experiences. One devotee is said to have exclaimed: “Oh Lord! Among the millions of beings on earth, how will Your eyes fall on me? You are not looking at me at all. Won’t You see me?” The devotee heard a voice saying: “Oh devotee! You are immersed in so many activities that you have hardly set your eyes upon Me. You have hardly devoted any thought to Me. Who, then, has forgotten whom? Is it you or Me?” People are involved in mundane concerns and are deeply immersed in worldly activities. All their thoughts relate to these actions. They worry about some relation or friend in some distant comer of the world, but cannot think of God who is so near to them. And when they are in trouble, they wail: “Oh Lord, hast Thou forgotten me?”

வாழ்க்கையில் பிரச்சினைகளை அனுபவிக்கும் மக்கள் அடிக்கடி, “ஏன் இறைவன் என்னை இது போன்ற சோதனைகளுக்கு ஆளாக்குகிறான்?” என்று நொந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். உண்மை என்னவென்றால், இறைவன் யாரையும் தானாக தண்டிப்பதும் இல்லை, அனுக்கிரஹிப்பதும் இல்லை. பக்தன் தன் கடமையை மட்டும் செய்துவிட்டு பலன்களை இறைவனிடம் விட்டுவிட வேண்டும். செயல்கள் நல்லவையாக இருந்தால், பலன்களும் நல்லவையாக இருக்கும். செயல்கள் தீயதாக இருந்தால் விளைவுகளும் அதே அளவிற்குத் தீயதாக இருக்கும். எனவே ஒருவரின் செயல்களின் தன்மையை ஆராயாமல், அவர் அனுபவிப்பதற்கு இறைவனைக் குறைகூறுவதில் அர்த்தமில்லை. ஒரு பக்தன் “இறைவா! பூமியில் உள்ள கோடிக்கணக்கான உயிரினங்களில் உன் பார்வை என் மீது எப்படி விழும்? நீ என்னைப் பார்ப்பதே இல்லை. நீ என்னைப் பார்க்க மாட்டாயா?” என்று கூக்குரலிட்டாராம். அப்போது ஒரு அசரீரி “பக்தனே! நீ பல பணிகளில் மூழ்கி இருப்பதால் நீ என் மீது சற்றேனும் கவனம் செலுத்தவில்லை. நீ என்னை சிந்திக்கவும் இல்லை. அப்படியிருக்க, யார் யாரை மறந்துவிட்டார்கள்? நீயா, நானா?” என்று அவனைக் கேட்டதாம். மக்கள் இவ்வுலகியலான கவலைகளைக் கொண்டு உலகியலான செயல்களில் ஆழ்ந்து மூழ்கியுள்ளனர். அவர்களின் எண்ணங்கள் முழுவதும் இந்த செயல்கள் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவையாகவே இருக்கின்றன. அவர்கள் உலகின் எங்கோ ஒரு மூலையில் இருக்கும் சில உறவினர் அல்லது நண்பரைப் பற்றிக் கவலைப்படுகிறார்களே தவிர அவர்களுக்கு மிகமிக அருகில் இருக்கும் இறைவனை நினைப்பதில்லை. அவர்கள் பிரச்சினையில் இருக்கும்போது, “இறைவா, என்னை மறந்துவிட்டாயா?” என்று புலம்புகிறார்கள்.
