දිව්‍යමය පහළ වීමක අරමුණ කුමක්ද? යන්න භගවාන් සමිඳුන් අප හට පහදා දෙනු ලබන බැවින් එය අපට අත්විඳ සහතික කර ගත හැකි වේ.
දුෂ්ට අයවළුනට දඬුවම් පැමිණවීමටත්, දැහැමි අටවළුන් ආරක්ෂා කිරීමත්, යන හේතු කාරණා මත දෙවියන් මෙලොවට පහළ වෙතැයි මිනිසුන් විශ්වාශ කරති. එසේ නමුදු මේවායින් නිරූපනය වන්නේ ඒ කාර්‍යභාරයේ එක් අංගයක් පමණි. දිගු කලක් පරිපූර්ණත්වයට පත් වීමට උත්සාහ ගන්නා අධ්‍යාත්මාභීලාෂී නට, ශාන්තියත්, සන්තුෂ්ටියත් ප්‍රදානය කිරීමද, ඔවුන්ගේ කාර්‍යභාරයට අයත් දෑ වන්නේය! අධ්‍යාත්මාභීලාෂියාගේ බලවත් වූ වුවමනාව නොසිඳෙන ආකාරයට මුර්තිමත් කිරීමට අවතාරයේ හෝ පහළ වූ දිව්‍ය ස්වරූපයේ කාර්‍යභාරය වෙයි. එය භක්තියේ මිහිරියාව කැටි කොට ගනු ලැබීමෙන් ලද දිව්‍යමය ප්‍රාර්ථනාවයි. නිර්රූපී භාවය, රූපී තත්වයක් ලබා ගනුයේ මේ අභිලාෂීන් හා අධ්‍යාත්මාභීලාෂීන් වෙනුවෙනි.
එළදෙනෙකු තම ක්ෂීරය ශ්‍රාවය කරනුයේ උගේ පැටවාගේ දිවි පැවැත්ම උදෙසාය. ඇය ගෙන දෙන්නාවූ මූලික ප්‍රතිලාභය එයයි. නමුත් එසේ ලබා දෙන කිරි අන් අයද ප්‍රයෝජනයට ගනු ලබයි. එයාකාරයටම භක්තිවන්තයින් ඒ සඳහා මුලික සුදුස්සන් වන නමුදු, ඔවුන්ගේ ප්‍රධාන අභිප්‍රාය ප්‍රීතිමත් භාවයත් නම්, ධර්මස්ථාපනයෙන් ඔවුන්ගේ කෘරභාවය යටපත් කිරීමේ වරප්‍රසාදය ඔවූනට හිමි වේ.
බැතිමතුන් පරිකල්පනය කරනුයේ ඔවුන් දෙවියන් සොයනු බවයි. මෙය සත්‍යයක් නොවේ. බැතිමතුන්ව සොයනු ලබන්නේ දෙවියන්ය.

What is the purpose of a Divine incarnation? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us, so we may experience the assurance of His Divine protection today.
People believe that incarnations of God happen for only two reasons: punishment of the wicked and protection of the righteous. But these represent only one aspect of the task. Granting of peace and joy, of a sense of fulfillment to seekers who have striven long — this too is His task!
The Avatar, or The Form Incarnate, is only the concretization of the yearning of seekers. It is the solidified sweetness of the devotion of godly aspirants. The Formless assumes the form for the sake of these aspirants and seekers. They are the prime cause.
The cow secretes milk for the sustenance of the calf. That is the chief beneficiary. But, as we see, others also benefit from that milk. So too, though the devotees (bhaktas) are the prime cause, and their joy and sustenance the prime purpose, other incidental benefits also accrue, such as the fostering of dharma, the suppression of evil, and the overwhelming of the wicked.

பகவானின் அவதாரங்கள் தீயோரை தண்டிப்பதற்கும் நல்லோரைக் காப்பதற்கும் மட்டுமே வருகின்றன என்று உலகம் சாதாரணமாகக் கருதுவது சகஜமே. ஆனால் அது அவதாரங்களின் ஒரு பாகம் மட்டுமே என்று கூறலாம். அவதாரங்கள் தோன்றுவது பக்தர்களின் திருப்திக்காகவும், தர்மத்தைக் காப்பதற்கும், சாதுக்களை போஷிப்பதற்காகவும் தான். பக்தர்களுடைய பாவ ரூபமே அவதாரம், பக்தர்களுடைய ஆனந்த ரசமே அவதாரம். எனவே அவதாரங்கள் பக்தர்களுக்காகவே அவதரிக்கின்றன என்று உறுதியாகக் கூறலாம். ஆதாரமே பிரதானம். பசு கன்றுக்காக பாலை சுரக்கிறது. கன்றுக்காகவே சுரக்கும் பாலை மற்றவர்களும் கூட எவ்வாறு உபயோகப்படுத்துகிறார்களோ, மற்றவர்களுக்கு அது எவ்வாறு பயனுள்ளதோ, அவ்வாறே பகவான் அவதரிப்பது பக்தர்களுக்கு அனுக்கிரஹிப்பதற்காகத் தான் என்றாலும், மறைமுக நன்மைகளான துஷ்டர்களை தண்டித்தல், தர்மத்தை ரக்ஷித்தல் போன்றவற்றிற்காகவும் பயன்படுகிறது.
